Milestone for our man of Morning Devotions
July 21, 2010
His words have been an inspiration to thousands of listeners. An encouragement to many at 'just the right time'.
And today, 21 July, marks the 14th anniversary since our much loved Chris Witts presented his first Mornings Devotion segment on Hope 103.2.
Listen Now - Katrina Roe interviews Chris Witts about his Devotions radio show
Chris, a Salvation Army officer, first began his affiliation with the radio station in an "off air" capacity in August 1995 when then managing director, Rev. Vernon Turner, approached him to be involved in a management capacity.
The following year, he was asked to contribute "on air" in Morning Devotions - the 9:05am segment that the Rev. Vernon had presented since the station first went to air in March 1979. (In fact, Vernon's loyal service to Mornings Devotions extended well before then as Christian Broadcasting Association had been commissioned to produce Christian content on tape for commercial and country radio in the 1960s and '70s).
"Vernon had been the anchor of Mornings Devotions for many years and listeners were very familiar with him," Chris recalls. "So it was decided it'd be best to usher me into the role."
"My first episode went to air on Sunday, 21 July, 1996 and I was scheduled to present two days a week - Sundays and Wednesdays. Over the next few weeks, I gradually took on more days until Vernon retired from the program in early 1997."
"I've truly loved the opportunity to serve God in this way".
"I don't look for any credit. I've always said that if one person is brought to Christ as a result of Morning Devotions, it's worth everything."
Tune into Chris Witts' Morning Devotions each day at 9:05am.
